Poet & Writer arrested in Rampur For Criticising The Actions of State Government Following The Suspension Of A Young Civil Servant.

Kanwal Bharti, a writer based in Rampur was arrested, for posting a comment about Azam Khan on Facebook, on the basis of a complaint filed by the Minister’s media convener.

Bharti in his post had commented about the UP government’s decision of suspending a young civil servant in the controversial sand mining case last year. In his complaint, the media convener had alleged that Bharti’s comment was provocative and may spread disharmony among people. Bharti was later released on bail.

Following the arrest, a social activist filed a complaint with the National Human Rights commission requesting for immediate enquiry and strict action, calling the arrest arbitrary and hasty.
